Price Quality Having a 8910 for several months, upgraded to the 9821. I was greatly disappointed that after I purchased the product, that I then later learn that they are selling the same unit along with a power extension cable and the mounting hardware kit for the same price on eBay. So I could have bought the same camera and accessories on eBay from the same retailer and saved $30. Some how this just does not seem fair at all. So before you buy it from Foscam website, check their eBay listings to save some money.
I am also very much disappointed, if not even slightly angered that the power supply that came with this unit has a cable that is only 3 feet long, while the 8910 has a power supply cable that is 10 feet long. With that, depending upon your application and how far away power is from where you mount the camera, you will have to pay $15 besides the cost difference for this camera than with the 9810 because you would need to buy an extension cable for the power supply.
Aside from that, this unit is much easier to set up than the 8910. There is a browser plug in that needs to be downloaded and installed, though that is extremely simple for use with Internet Explorer. Though the browser I do use is Firefox and it is not that simple with it. What needs to be done is to copy the npIPCReg.dll file from the folder where the plug in is installed and paste it in the Plug In folder for Firefox. After that, it opens in Firefox without any problem at all.
I had a little difficulty with Port Forwarding, couldn't see that I did get it set up correctly. So I did call tech support and he accessed my computer and router and did verify that I did have it set up correctly.
The fluidity of motion with this camera is so much better than with the 8910. Added features include being able to adjust Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, Color. It also creates a log of those who access the camera as well as their IP Address and time. And with this one, the browser plug in allows you to load multiple cameras and be able to view all of them at the same time.
I was not able to get the smart phone app to work to scan the QR Code on the bottom of the camera, though it was still extremely easy to manually enter the information to set it up to work.
Other than the price difference between the website and eBay along with the short power cable I am very satisfied with this unit. With finances being tight, I have looked at other brands and even generic brands. Though not being proficient with networking and router configuration, I chose to buy from Foscam for the added benefit of tech support and remote set up. And I am glad that I made that choice. Price Quality I'm impressed with how this camera works as compared to my old Lorex system I had back in 2004 with coaxial cables. Recently I decided to setup up cameras at home again and I really like the network IP cameras. Back a few years they were really expensive. I have mine setup with the Blue Iris software and the android app along with a domain name pointing to my home router. I will be buying more of the Foscam cameras. (Posted on 1/26/15)
